PM19 Speaker Submission Deadline, Industry/Community updates, and final thought about batting averages!
Greetings PM Family,
Baseball season is still several weeks away in the US, however, this is the week where the players report to Spring Training!
This week’s edition of the newsletter we will tip our hats to spring training baseball, as we round the following bases: PM19 Speaker Submission Deadline, Industry/Community updates, PM19 price increase and final thought about batting averages!
A 3-2 Count… it’s the bottom of the 9th!
This phrase usually indicates what will likely be the final play of a baseball game. And just like that’ we have reached a pivotal moment in our hundreds of speaker submissions that have already loaded the bases. This is your LAST CHANCE for you to pitch a game winner! The deadline is midnight on February 28.
We get dozens of emails and FB messages every year after the deadline, asking to submit a presentation. Unfortunately, by that time, the umpires and referees have left the field, and the answer will be no. The answer is yes until the deadline though! Please make plans to get your submission in asap!
Striking Out: Reasons Why Your PM19 Session Submission Could be Declined
- The submission form was not completed properly. You must fully complete it, AND receive a confirmation email from us. (You can still modify or complete an existing submission until midnight on the 28th)
- The submission is not original to Podcast Movement. The content of the presentation is from another online or in person event. We look for creative and innovative ideas to share from our stages. The same presentations repurposed from other conferences, to be podcaster focused, often don’t stand out from the others!
- Trying to advertise your product or service disguised as a presentation! We want to help you share your services, but this must be done the right way, through exhibiting or sponsorship, not from the stage. Partner with us!
- There are too many submissions in your track or on your topic! Monetization and Marketing have a large number of submissions each year, as do basic topics like “podcasting on a budget”. While these tracks and topics are covered, we want to make sure yours can stand out, and be one of the 5 or 6 submissions selected for your chosen track. You will do yourself a favor and improve your chances of being picked by being different.

- Podcast Movement does not have baseball jerseys, but we do have some fine t-shirts for everyone of every size!
- All podcasters now can get FREE promotion on Podcoin just by claiming their podcast. They offer a new feature in the most recent mobile release that allows specific podcasts to earn Podcoin at a higher rate. Podcoin claims to drive more than 60,000 minutes already a day of new traffic to their bonus podcasts.

Post Game Analysis on Batting Averages
In baseball, a hitter’s batting average (BA) is their number of hits, divided by the number of times they had a turn ”at bat.” It is usually reported to three decimal places and read without the decimal: Example: a player with a batting average of .300 is “batting three-hundred.”
The all-time league batting average in Major League Baseball is between .260 and .275.
It is interesting to look at the list of best batting averages of all time according to the Baseball Almanac.
Ty Cobb is in first place with a lifetime batting average of .366. Babe Ruth’s lifetime batting average was .342. Jackie Robinson’s lifetime batting average was .311.
How does this apply to podcasters?
Even the best lifetime batting average of all time is less than four hits out of every ten times the person had a chance to hit. That’s more failures than successes!
In school, the grade of 40 out of 100 was not just failing, but also perceived as a flat out poor effort.
It may feel like certain podcast episodes that you have published are better than others. And it may be discouraging when a series of your episodes seem average, when compared to others.
We share all of this this as an attempt to consider baseball’s batting averages whenever you record your episodes. Remember that three hits out of ten attempts is among the greatest of all time in baseball. Whenever you might be tempted to perceive that your podcasting efforts are falling short, we encourage you to change your perspective.
